Germanic Romance ~ Piano Recital by Alumnus, Li-Chun Su

As part of the Kuandu Art Festival 2012 at Taipei National University of the Arts, Alumnus Li-Chun Su gave a concert on pieces by German composers. For encore there was a Chopin's Nocturne (Su's selection as a reflection of how she felt while she was away from home in Germany), and a "dance song" by Handel, some kind of variation.

Very glad to have heard the Liszt Sonata live, making it realizable that bad recording sounds simply did not do justice to this great piece. Also Su was more warmed up by the second half and the sounds were just beautiful. Great techniques (don't know what professionals mean by "great techniques", usuing the colloquial sense), and very haunting phrases and pauses (don't know what professionals mean by phrasing and pausing, using the colloquial sense). It's the greatest B-sonata experiencible. Should've bought the CD there for her to sign it.

The Bach was pretty (bit unprepared and little bit out of the musical appreciation mood while chatting with neighbors). The Beethoven was really straight and metronomed, a display of the strength and weaknesses of the piece on paper.

Loved the encores, in particular as it was craved for -- to get out of the serious mood set by the whole program (for a saturday), and thankfully there was encore no.2, a piece by Handel (initiated by someone behind the doors "encore"!! even though the cheers have died down a little). Wish known friends were present to allow gratitude be expressed bit more overtly.
